As a sociology major, you will learn how to think systematically and critically about human social activity through the acquisition of the sociological imagination. This major teaches foundation skills of social interaction valued across industries and offers its students training and understanding in the scientific method as applied to real social data. Subjects covered include the study of crime, law, gender, class, religion, culture and meaning, family systems, population dynamics, and race and ethnicity. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared for a variety of professional opportunities and careers in business, criminal justice, government, public and private agencies, or further academic study and social research.

Degrees

Students earning this degree must complete the total 120 credit-hour curriculum required to graduate from the School of Arts and Sciences. Some degree programs require additional credits.
